Scientific illiteracy of human biology and the use of biology as the justification for bigotry are nothing new. What it has shown is the bigotry of certain femenists. Those femmenists should be called what they are bigots.

Exactly. The sudden obsession with biology isn’t about science, it’s about control... dressed up in GCSE-level genetics and passed off as moral clarity. And the worst part is, it’s not even new. Just the same old exclusion repackaged in feminist language to make it feel righteous.

I honestly think trans women in particular are such a vibrant threat to bigots because their mere existence flies in the face of patriarchy and threatens to crumble it's very building blocks. Why would someone born with the privilege of maleness decide to physically transform into what society has been constantly saying is weak and bad: a woman? It shakes the core of their beliefs on gender and gender roles and proves in a second that life is more complex than all their tidy little proclamations. Things that people do not understand will always cause fear. But society needs to get over that and grow the fuck up.

I thought this was a very well-written piece. Here in the states, the same thing happened with our government where they basically declared that sex and gender are the same thing, so that they could eradicate what they called the "trans ideology." The vitriol they have towards the trans community makes me sick to my stomach. I just wish everyone could be treated as humans because no one deserves to be treated like outcasts.

Jessica, this is so well written. I was just having a similar conversation with my daughter yesterday after hearing about the ruling. I genuinely don’t understand why society insists on creating battles between groups that should be standing together. It reminds me so much of racism, how certain parts of the community get marginalised over and over again, simply for existing outside what’s deemed “comfortable.” Thank you for voicing this so clearly and compassionately.

I loved this piece. You're so eloquent and excoriating in your argument. The same people taking away the rights of trans and disabled folk today will be coming for other protected groups soon unless we stand up for hard won rights and push for better protection. As you say, not necessarily just from individuals, but from the state... The current rhyme with history terrifies me.
